Hello all!
I hope that many of the parents, guardians, family members, and community members were able to attend our Heritage Christmas Concert last night! The students involved in band, choir, and orchestra at Heritage did an excellent job showcasing what is being learned in our classrooms.
I wanted to send out a quick post about what we have been working on and what is coming up next for our choirs. Some of our older students in the 7th and 8th grade are about to embark on the holiday tour to the elementary schools, to sing for our younger students in the district. They will be singing Carol of the Bells, which is a quite a complicated piece of three parts woven together. Our 7th and 8th grade students have been focusing a lot of attention on part independence, as well as further developing basic reading skills during this first semester of school.
Our younger students in the 6th grade are focusing a lot of attention on developing good breath support and cultivating good tone. One of the more difficult pieces they have learned so far for developing good phrasing was demonstrated on last night's concert, with "The First Noel/Pachabel's Canon".
As our older students embark on our holiday tour and begin to bring our first half of the year to a close, I wanted to encourage parents and families to be involved in the learning in our classrooms, as well as the events and activities going on so far in our choirs!
Due to some shifting in the concert calendar, there will be some concert date changes coming up during the second half of the year. Please stay tuned here on the website and in our letters home for those changes when we return from holiday break.
Should you need anything or just wish to be more involved in what is happening in the classroom, please feel free to email me at [email protected] or call me through the school number, 740-670-7110, ext. 2442
Take Care and Happy Holidays!
